Ripamonti Family Name

The Ripamonti family name is thought to originate from an area known as Brianza. Brianza is a geographical, historical and cultural area at the foot of the Alps, in what is the North-West part of Lombardy in northern Italy located immediately north of Milan, the largest and most prosperous city of Italy.

From a branch of the Ripamonti family that lived in Rome after the Renaissance period a man by the name of Francesco moved to Verucchio (a fortified city 18 kilometers from Rimini in the region of Emilia Romagna) to marry a noblewoman by the name of Cecilia Malatesta whose family owned and ruled as Marquis from the fortified hilltop town of Verucchio. Therefore some of the Ripamonti’s established residence and gained a noble title there.

Today about 1500 people in Italy have Ripamonti as a last name. 1300 of them are living in the region of Lombardy.

There are also hundreds of Ripamonti’s that emigrated from Italy and are now scattered throughout the world in countries such as the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, Spain, France, Ireland, England and Germany. Their names are sometimes spelled differently such as: Rippamonti, Ripamonte, Repamonte, Repamont and Ripamont.

Several of the Ripamontis are known to have unusual musical talents as my uncle Luciano and grandfather Sisto did.

There is a manufacturer of clarinets and a hotel chain, a drilling and demolition company, a car glass repair company, a metal treatment company and a construction company that are all very well-known and are located in the Milan area, as well as one of the most important streets in Milan – all named Ripamonti.
